Deputy is a global SaaS workforce management company with hubs in Sydney, Melbourne, San Francisco and London, plus team members working remotely across the United States. Our platform serves over 1.5 million workers and 375,000 workplaces across 100+ countries. We are backed by top global investors and recently achieved Unicorn status.    At Deputy, we’re improving the world of work, one shift at a time, for 80% of the world’s workforce: hourly workers. These are the dedicated employees who keep our world running – from baristas to nurses, cleaners to delivery drivers, florists to factory workers. Despite their vital role in society, most workplace technology has focused on those workers who sit behind a desk, but at Deputy, we transform the frontline. When businesses use Deputy, their workplaces thrive – the business is more profitable, compliant, and productive, while the workers are more engaged and happier at work.   We're becoming an AI-native company, a commitment that means you'll be empowered (and expected) to use AI tools and thinking in your day-to-day work. You'll have the training, support, and freedom to use AI responsibly and creatively to spark ideas, solve problems faster, and unlock new ways of working.   If you’re passionate about creating solutions that put people first and helping businesses and their teams thrive, join us at Deputy and make an impact where it matters most! About your role Join Deputy's AI Scheduling team and work on one of the most used parts of our product. Businesses have created more than a billion shifts with Deputy, and Scheduling is where business demand, employee availability, labour costs and compliance meet. The team is bringing AI and automation into the decisions managers make every day, helping them build compliant, cost-effective schedules at scale. It's a mature, business-critical product with plenty left to build. You'll help modernise established workflows, make it faster for larger customers and find where AI can make scheduling simpler. This is a hands-on senior engineering role with no direct reports. You'll spend most of your time designing, building and shipping with the other engineers in the squad, owning meaningful projects and looking for the next problem worth solving. Build and own • Lead the technical design of squad projects, build and ship them, and stay with them once customers depend on them. • Ship in small, well-tested steps, improve the code you touch, and raise risks early so there are no late surprises. • Work with Product, Design and Data to turn customer problems into features that make a measurable difference. Shape technical decisions • Develop a deep understanding of the Scheduling product and its architecture, so you can help the team make sound technical decisions. • Make pragmatic trade-offs between shipping quickly and keeping Scheduling fast, dependable and ready for enterprise scale, with an eye on what the product will need next. • Improve the performance, reliability, security and maintainability of a multi-tenant product used by businesses around the world. • Use design reviews, lessons from incidents and small proofs of concept to back your decisions with evidence. Raise the bar for the team • Set a high bar in code reviews, with feedback that helps other engineers grow. • Mentor engineers in the squad and help build a team where people challenge ideas and learn from mistakes. Help evolve how we build with AI • Use AI-assisted and agentic development tools on real work, and form your own view of where they help and where they do not. • Help the team build good practices for reviewing, testing, monitoring and documenting machine-drafted code, so what ships is correct, secure and understood by its owners. • When you build customer-facing AI features, plan for evaluation, guardrails, cost, latency and graceful failure from the start. What we are looking for • 4+ years of experience as a backend software engineer, including taking features from design through to production. • Experience running customer-facing software and making trade-offs between delivery speed, reliability and long-term maintainability. • Experience designing APIs (REST or RPC) and building services with good monitoring and observability. • You have led or shaped technical designs, and you can explain engineering decisions to technical and non-technical people. • You have worked with Product and Design on problems that were not fully defined, and found practical ways to move them forward. • You already use AI coding tools in your own work, and you review their output as critically as a colleague's code. Helpful experience • Building and operating distributed, cloud-native or multi-tenant SaaS systems at scale. • Designing for resilience across services, event-driven systems and large relational or NoSQL data stores. • Shipping LLM-backed or agentic features in production. • Working on workforce management, scheduling or another operationally complex product. • PHP or Go in production, and tools like protobuf, gRPC, MySQL, Redis, DynamoDB, SQS and Elasticsearch. Technology We use a mix of languages and tools, including PHP, Go and Python, on AWS. We care more about your technical depth, judgement and ability to learn than an exact match with our stack. Employee Perks   Enjoy a flexible work policy (with a work-from-home stipend to set you up for success!) Own a piece of Deputy via our Employee Share Ownership Plan (ESOP)  Take paid parental leave to support you and your family  Stay protected with Group Salary Continuance Insurance Access support through our Employee Assistance Program Enjoy additional leave days — including study assistance, celebration days and volunteering Join our global working groups focused on collaboration, belonging and connection Get creative at our annual Hackathons Take advantage of our novated leasing for electric vehicles, internet reimbursement and more!   Learn more about our Design, Engineering & Product teams here   Deputy believes in equal opportunity and that inclusiveness and diversity promotes innovation. • Senior Mobile Engineer (Android)

Xero · AU: Melbourne: (260 Burwood Rd)

    NEWHybridFull-time

We’re looking for a Senior Android Engineer who builds and maintains Xero Me's mobile applications, part of our Payroll product used by small businesses, that help employees and employers manage critical payroll and workforce moments (pay, leave, timesheets, expenses, documents) with reliability and excellence. They drive high-velocity product delivery while ensuring system security, scalability and performance across native iOS/Android apps and supporting services. By combining hands-on engineering excellence with mentorship and technical leadership, they directly improve the employee experience at scale while elevating the entire team's engineering craft and capability. This is a rare opportunity to own outcomes that matter — you're not just writing code, you're shaping how a million of employees and employers experience critical financial moments (pay, leave, expenses). You'll work at a genuine technical scale with the autonomy to design systems, lead API contracts, and drive architectural decisions that stick, not just execute someone else's vision. Critically, you'll evolve as a cross-platform engineer — Xero is intentionally moving from platform-specific to cross-platform mobile engineering, and this role puts you at the center of that transformation. You'll deepen your expertise in your native platform (Android or iOS) while building real fluency in the other, gaining skills that are increasingly valuable and rare. You'll contribute to shaping shared engineering practices that work across both platforms, giving you architectural influence beyond a single ecosystem.   The team and how they connect You'll work alongside engineers who care deeply about craft, mentorship and learning, and there's a real commitment to raising capability rather than just shipping. You get hands-on technical leadership: meaningful code review influence, direct mentoring of engineers who will grow under your guidance, and a voice in shaping engineering practices across mobile and backend. The tech stack is modern — native mobile at scale, modern cloud platforms, thoughtful AI adoption for productivity. Plus, it's hybrid flexibility (Melbourne/Sydney), high-velocity delivery without burnout, and the chance to move from just being a strong engineer to being someone who shapes culture and capability. For someone who's built things they're proud of and wants the next level — ownership, impact, cross-platform mastery, mentorship, and scaling influence — this is compelling.   WHERE AND HOW YOU CAN WORK This hybrid role is based in Melbourne or Sydney, with flexibility. Our mobile engineering teams are distributed across both locations, with regular collaboration and dedicated boost days that bring teams together to solve problems, share knowledge and strengthen connections.   HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS WE'RE LOOKING FOR Technical Foundation: - Android engineering excellence: deep mastery of performance optimization, accessibility, testing strategies, release management and platform conventions; a track record of building robust apps at scale - AI-native development mindset: practical experience using AI (copilots, code generation, debugging tools) to improve productivity while maintaining sound judgment about correctness, security, privacy and over-reliance; comfort integrating AI into your daily workflow - Cross-platform fluency: solid understanding of iOS conventions and the ability to collaborate meaningfully with iOS engineers on shared architectural decisions; valued ability to contribute to backend services, API design, and service integration - Hands-on API and service development: experience designing or evolving service endpoints, API contracts, and integrations (exposure to .NET, AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD is valuable)   Leadership & Mindset: - Customer-first thinking: ability to connect technical decisions to employee, employer and business outcomes; clarity about why things matter - Growth mindset under ambiguity: comfort with change and shifting direction; you help the team find clarity and make pragmatic trade-offs without getting paralyzed - Bias for action: preference for incremental delivery and learning through execution over analysis paralysis; shipping wins trust - Communication discipline: translating business needs into technical solutions and explaining constraints/trade-offs with data-driven clarity - Mentorship and raising the bar: genuine commitment to helping others grow; thoughtful code reviews, knowledge sharing and constructive feedback that elevate team capability Apply even if your experience isn't a perfect match! At Xero, we hire based on your skills, passion, curiosity and the unique perspective you can bring to enhance our culture and team.

    Immutable · Sydney

    NEWHybridFull-time

About Us 🚀 At Immutable, our mission is to drive the next evolution of gaming. One of the hardest part of  gaming is finding the players it deserves. Thousands of games launch every month, most never reach the audience they've already earned. That's the problem Immutable exists to solve, and it's why we built Audience, our growth platform for game studios. We're growing faster than we ever have, and we're hiring the talent who'll take it further. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Sydney, Australia. A bit about the role 🤔 Immutable is looking for a hands-on product engineer to build Audience, the MarTech platform that decides whether a game succeeds. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, product, and data and you'll own outcomes, not just tasks. The work spans multiple initiatives including attribution and measurement (built from scratch, so studios can see which marketing actually drives players), engagement (a lifecycle and messaging engine built for games), AI growth (an AI CMO that audits a studio's marketing and recommends the next best action) and more. You'll Be Empowered To (responsibilities) 🎮 • Own features end to end, from the customer problem through to shipping into a live product used by paying game studios • Build attribution and measurement such as, click tracking, identity capture, install attribution, and conversion postbacks that work natively • Shape Engage, our lifecycle and messaging engine across campaigns, journeys, segmentation, deliverability, and A/B testing • Help build our AI CMO, and the orchestration layer that lets it beat a generic model by encoding real marketing expertise • Work AI-native by default, using Cursor, Claude Code, and our own coding agents in the pull-request loop • Work directly with Product, Design, Data, and our founders, and talk to the studios using what you build. You may be a good fit if you 🤝: • 4+ years of engineering experience in a product-driven environment • Energised in an ambiguous environment • Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript (both frontend and backend) and Golang is a must have • Empathy-driven communication and the ability to work across varied stakeholders • Experience mentoring and sharing best practices with junior engineers • Passion for user-first product development and operational excellence • Start-up or Entrepreneurial experience is a plus • Keen interest in Gaming and a willingness to learn fast Strong candidates may also have experience with: • Have built product at a marketing, growth, attribution, customer-data, or customer-engagement company, and terms like segments, attribution, user acquisition, CDP, CEP, lifecycle, and deliverability are second nature • Have taken a product from 0 to 1, defining the first version and cutting scope yourself, and you think customer-problem-first • Build with AI agents day to day, and have real opinions about where they help, where they don't, and when not to trust them • Building and shipping AI or LLM-powered product features Our Stack: TypeScript, Go, Next.js and React, a BigQuery-based customer data platform, AWS and GCP, Kubernetes, and AI tooling including Cursor and Claude Code. We track our work in Linear. How we work: Small teams that own their outcomes. Fast iteration on CI/CD rather than big-bang releases. AI does the mechanical work so you can focus on judgement, taste and the customer. We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every qualification above.
